Fado is a uniquely Portuguese style that can be traced to the 1820s featuring mournful tunes and lyrics expressing the longing of the pioneering Portuguese sailors. The genre, which nearly expired with the loss of Amalia Rodrigues, experienced a revival spurred by a new wave of extraordinary female artists. Helder Moutihno is a rare male voice in the international arena although he is a true veteran of the Portuguese scene known for his warm, powerful voice and depth of emotion. He appears with the traditional accompaniment of Portuguese and classical guitar.
