In Spring 2010, Arizona Governor Jan Brewer signed into law HB 2281, calling for the eradication of the state's ethnic studies programs. In Fall 2011, the much touted Tucson Unified School District's Mexican American Studies Program (MAS) was declared in violation of the law; classes were shut down, and "banned books" and other teaching materials were confiscated. MAS students and teachers banded together to form Save Ethnic Studies and have filed a suit in federal district court that challenges the constitutionality of HB 2281. Suggested donation is $25 to help fund their legal challenge. If you cannot attend you can donate online.
